FAQs

Ques - What is Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete ? (SFRC)

Ans - Steel fiber reinforced concrete is comprised of hydraulic cements containing fine & course aggregates &, steel fiber. A super plasticizer is often used to enhance the mix work ability. Steel fiber product are avilable in a varity of types & sizes from various manufacturers. The underlaying principle however on all SFRC designs is to discontinous rainforcement & effectiv crack control.

Ques - How concrete improved by using Steel Fibers?

Ans - Compared to plain or conventional reinforced concrete the most noticeable differences are improved ductility & post crack performance.Shortar fibers with a high fiber count offer superior first crack strength & better fatigue endurance. For ground supported slabs we highly recommend the 1" deformed fiber with a high fiber count.

Ques - What about cracking ?

Ans - Concrete has always been unpredicatable material & no methodology can elminate cracking. Using SFRC offers an extremely effective means of controling cracks. This together with proper sub-base preparation, joints & curing all essential to overall job performance.

Ques - How does SFRC lower costs over the installation life ?

Ans - Depending on the quantity and complexity of reinforcements in traditional design, SFRC can offer substainal cost saving. The superior performance of steel fiber will often reduce maintaince over the installation life , thus reducing the project cost.

Ques - What is the typical dosage rate ?

Ans - SFRC dosage rates depend on the application of the concrete properties requiredd. Typically 40 lb. to 100 lb. will satisfy most requirements. Lower dosages tend to be used when replacing conventional wire mesh. At higher concentrations SFRC will meet the most demanding requirements.

Ques - How are fiber added to concrete ?

Ans - Fibers can be added at the batch plant by depositing onto an aggregate conveyor. They can also added to a transit mixer on site by use of a lightweight conveyer attached directly to back of the vehicale.

Ques - What is the difference between syntheic & steel fibers ?

Ans - Synthetic fibers help control plastic shrinkage cracking which can occur in the very stage of concrete dying. Steel fibers reinforce the concrete in its' hardened state thereby improving its' strength and durability. The major difference between steel & synthetics is their respective Yong modulus & tensile yield strength. Steel fibers have a sufficient high modulus of elasticity & tensile strength to assume excess strain across a crack & hold it tightly.
